Have you ever seen someone walk straight up to someone they don’t even know and tell them about how Jesus changed their life and then ask them if they’re willing to repent and believe? Or what about the street preacher on YouTube who preaches and talks about Jesus without any worry about if the world hates them or not. The boldness to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ is something that we should all desire, yet few Christians truly pray for this.
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Romans 10:14-15)
We have been swept away by a culture that is indoctrinated with this idea that we should all just get along and be tolerant of each other’s beliefs. As much as people try to say this, Jesus was not tolerant of any and everything. He loved people so much that he wanted them to turn away from their sins and run to him. He cared enough to tell people the truth.
Do you want the boldness to share the Gospel more? There are some simple things you can do.
Pray For The Boldness to Share The Gospel
The boldness to share the Gospel must come from God. The book of James tells us that all good gifts come from God. The problem is too many of us in the western world believe that good gifts come from our hard work. We have been brainwashed to believe that what matters the most is how hard we work and not who God is.
Could you save yourself with your own hard work? Of course not, salvation comes from God so that none of us can boast or brag. In Matthew 7 scripture says:
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
People often run with this and think this means God is a genie and we can ask him for material things. The reality is that God is good and he will provide us with anything he wants. But he will be faithful to give us things that are very clear in his will. Praying for the boldness and opportunities to share the Gospel will help to advance his Kingdom.
Advancing his Kingdom is an amazing thing so why not pray for this?
We spend too much time praying for good health and things here on this earth and not enough time praying for things that are going to build his Kingdom. God is not worried about your happiness. He is not worried about your material possessions but he is worried about your sanctification.
It’s hard to say you are becoming more like Jesus if you are not also praying as he did. Jesus would leave everyone behind and spend long periods of time alone, just praying for the Father’s will to be done on this earth. You should do the same. Pray for God to transform your heart and make being a bold follower of him the most important thing to you.
Read God’s Word for The Boldness to Share The Gospel
Read the Gospels. What you see everywhere is not people who found courage on their own. What you see is people who recognized they had to be dependent on God.
Exodus 4: 10-12
10 But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” 11 Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
We see in both the Old and New Testaments that it’s God who is going to do the work, not us. There is no having the right words to say. But what we do have is a dependence on God. We need God’s amazing character who is so loving and faithful that he provided a way for salvation. We need the son who was willing to stay on that cross and give his life up for those who deserved death. The Holy Spirit is needed and it’s given to us as a guide to keeping us away from sin. When we yield to the spirit we come away with the words to say.
The more we are in the word of God, the more we see example after example of how we need God to show up. Boldness is not going to come from you mustering anything up inside. God is going to need to use his power to change your heart.
Have Community With People Who Have The Boldness to Share The Gospel
Philippians 1:12-14 says:
12 I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. 14 And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much bolder to speak the word without fear.
Paul was willing to share the Gospel even if it costs him his life. He believed in this that much. When people saw that he was willing to go to jail for his faith, it gave them the courage to be bold. It came from God using someone in a powerful way and others being inspired by that boldness.
If you want to be more of anything, hang around people who are that. If you want to be lawless, hang around people who love to get in trouble. If you want to be bold then you should hang around people who love Jesus so much that they are willing to run through brick walls for the Gospel.
The more you hang around this type of person, the more infectious it becomes for your life. You can’t help but want to share the Gospel and be like the people you are hanging around. If all of your Christian friends never talk about sharing the Gospel with anyone, then you most likely will not do it either.
