How to Spread The Gospel In Your Community

How to Spread The Gospel In Your Community

If you want to know how to spread the Gospel, you don’t have to look much further than the Bible to get started. The life of Jesus Christ gives us plenty of examples of how to spread the good news. Notice that Jesus did not need social media or any of our modern-day luxuries to spread his message. Being Jesus was enough then, and Jesus is still enough today! Unfortunately, one of the problems that many Christians have today when it comes to evangelism is not having faith that the name of Jesus is enough.

The other problem that the average Christian faces today is not thinking it’s their job to share the Gospel. Christianity has become this passive experience where you come and just get fed by some pastor and go home and feel good. Biblical Christianity is active where everybody member comes ready to give the time, talents, and resources God has given them. Stop waiting for someone else to share the Gospel and do what God has called you to do.

To Know How to Spread The Gospel You Must Know It

The word Gospel means good news. What is the good news? Well, for there to be good news, we first need the bad news. The bad news is the part that the world tends to skip over, and it’s why many people hate talking about sin. You mention sin, and many people see it as judgment, but you can’t accept the good news of Jesus without the bad news of why you need him to begin with. Before you can learn how to spread the Gospel, here is an easy way to remember and share it.

Who is God?

  • Good
  • Sovereign
  • Loving
  • Merciful
  • Majestic
  • Just
  • Holy
  • Perfection
  • A Wonderful creator

God is excellent and worthy of awe because he is perfection and the creator of everything you see. Many of us will be in awe of creatures who are famous but not in awe of the one who created the creature. God is all of the things we love to see here on earth.

God is so amazing and Holy that he cannot mix with anything less than perfection. So, therefore, when he created all creation, he said it was good and allowed it to be in his presence.

Who Are You?

Here is where the bad news comes in. You are a sinner! It means that you have missed the mark that God set before you. The sin in your life has separated you from God for an eternity because of his inability to mix with sin. Sin puts you on the path to death and an eternity burning in hell in agony.

Why would you want to be with God in heaven if you never loved his ways? If you genuinely love God, you want to follow him and be with him. If you choose to sin, it means you don’t believe in a supreme ruler and that his ways are NOT better than yours.

Hell is a horrible place because its absence of the goodness of God. The bad news is that you are heading there without God in your life.

What Did God Do?

God loves you so much that he was not ok being separated from you for humanity. God himself came down to earth in the form of a man and lived here with us so he could fully empathize with us. He did not sin once in that time, and as he brought truth to us, it made the religious people angry because Jesus was claiming to be God, which was blasphemous to them. They had to get rid of Jesus, so they put him on the cross and killed him. Three days later, the Father was faithful to raise Jesus from the dead, and he conquered sin and death.

The Gospel is the Good news that Jesus has saved humanity from sin and death. People cannot work for their salvation, so Jesus did all of the work for us by taking on the death you and I deserved.

How Do You Respond to What God Did?

You repent and believe and accept the free Gifts of God. That is all! When you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved! There is no amount of giving, serving, or work that you can do to earn your salvation.

There is nothing you can offer God that will impress him. The only thing that is impressive to God is the perfection of his son Jesus. Because of what Jesus did, you get to accept all of the things that Jesus accomplished that you could not do on your own. For example, Jesus did not need forgiveness because he had no sin, so you are forgiven for your sin and seen as having no blemish. The finished work of the cross is all you need to go forward.

Some of the Free Gifts:

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Hope
  • The Holy Spirit
  • Eternal life
  • Forgiveness of sins
  • Purpose
  • A new master

You get to accept all of these gifts from above. You receive the Holy Spirit, and you get to go forward in life like Jesus did because you now have the spirit of God dwelling within you.

How Did Jesus Change Your Heart?

One of the myths to knowing how to spread the Gospel is that you need to have some special knowledge. Unfortunately, people in the Western world often feel like they need to be educated to talk to others about Jesus. This could not be further from the truth.

Luke 12:11-12

And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

You have to remember that your goal is to glorify God in all you do. If you talk with someone in your power and they come to know Jesus, then you are the one who gets the Glory. God will change people’s hearts towards him by the most unlikely mouthpieces to prevent this. He does this so that he gets the Glory for working in our lives in the end.

You don’t need to worry about what to say to people. Trust the Holy Spirit in that moment to give you the words to say. Tell people that Jesus is all they need and prove it with your own story. Talk about who you were before Jesus came into your life, and then talk about what changed after.

When you do this, it forces you to ask yourself if you believe Jesus is enough. When Jesus is enough, you don’t need to add anything special to the word of God or your story. Instead, you need to present it and then watch what God does with it.

Know Some Apologetics for The Hard Stuff

There will be some conversations where people will fight back at you with everything they have to prove that Jesus is not for real. People will say things like:

  • How do you know Jesus is real?
  • Is the Bible the word of God
  • But the Bible was written by man
  • Christians are so judgemental, and the Bible says not to judge
  • But Christians hate gays, and I can’t support that
  • The Bible is sexist

The Word of God remains the same, but the culture and world around us will continually change. As it changes, it raises questions about what the Bible says is sin that culture has begun to accept.

Many people don’t talk about Jesus more from being terrified of these questions or statements. People are scared of confrontation with others who hate the name of Jesus. Apologetics helps you to be able to defend your faith so you can have these conversations without panic.

7 Practical Tips for How To Spread The Gospel

Make Living Out Your Faith a Priority in Your Life

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Romans 14:8

For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.

Your faith should be your priority. Your salvation was bought with a price, and that is the blood of Jesus. God himself had to give himself up so that you and I could be saved and one with God.

When you know that it should change how you live. All of a sudden, an essential thing in your life becomes living for God. You set the stage for evangelism when you do this because your life becomes attractive. People see how you walk, talk and live and can’t help but want to know what you have that they don’t. When you live for Jesus, it creates a natural path to tell others about how Jesus is. Living for Jesus is the best way to learn how to spread the Gospel.

Have More Spiritual Conversations

When your mind is filled with the Word of God, it changes how you speak. Before, you would only talk about the things of the world, but now your focus is on the things of God. Also, when you are used to having spiritual conversations with anyone, it becomes easier to evangelize.

Don’t just have spiritual conversations when someone is challenging your faith. Talking about the things of God may feel foreign to you because it’s not something you naturally do.

The more you talk about Jesus in your everyday life, the easier it becomes to keep proclaiming his name, no matter how others feel about him.

Fear God More Than Man

Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Do you fear what other people think more than you fear that God can destroy your soul in hell? If you do, you should reconsider this. A human can ruin your body, but God can destroy both body and soul. The Fear of God is the beginning of knowledge. If you are not first willing to do this, you will be a fool lacking instruction.
When you fear man, you will do anything to favor and please a man. But when you fear God, you will only please a man if it’s the will of God. Anything outside of the will of God will be pushed to the side, even if it means you lose money, your job, or other opportunities. When you fear God you will step into learning how to spread the Gospel because you want to be obedient.

Take Advantage of The Internet

The Gospel should be anywhere that people are. The internet is where people spend significant amounts of time, which means unbelievers can be reached with the Gospel. It doesn’t matter if it’s social media or a blog like this one. You have the opportunity to spread the Love of Christ.

You may have a gift to write, edit, speak, film or do many other things designed for the digital age. Use those gifts and your knowledge of the internet to reach people with the Gospel. When you think about all of the crap on the internet and all the hate, there is much opportunity to learn how to spread the Gospel and show others how as well.

Be Courageously Hospitable

Hebrews 13:2

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby, some have entertained angels unawares.

Currently, our culture wants us to build bigger houses that act more like castles to keep people out. The goal for most Americans is more money to get away from any danger. This convinces people that poor people need Jesus more than rich people because sin looks different. The reality is that God shows no partiality, and if you have even one sin in your life, you need Jesus because you have been separated from God.

What does it look like for you to take hospitality to another level? For example, to have an open door welcoming to people who look different from you are from another socioeconomic class. Does that sound a bit terrifying to you?

I have vowed with the connection group I lead to break the barriers of class and race down. God has reconciled us all and adopted us into a new family that does not know or cares about those barriers. All we know is that we are brothers and sisters in Christ, and the church should be the best example of this.

Invite people over, even if you don’t know them well. The call on your life is to set an example by loving your neighbors and those who need a hand. How you do that tells people more about the God you serve.

Sit Outside On Your Front Porch

One of the easiest ways to share the Gospel is to meet neighbors. One of the best ways to meet neighbors is to sit on your front porch. If you live in an urban context or the suburbs, it means you have neighbors that will walk by with their dogs and families, and you will be there to say high every day.

These are the simple things that create opportunities to share the Gospel. You don’t need to memorize an entire book of the Bible, and you don’t need any charisma or anything else. All you need to do is want to meet people and be in their life, and it will create opportunities to talk about the Gospel.

Forgive and Repent

One of the best ways to show people that Jesus has changed you is to forgive people who have wronged you and repent to those you have wronged. The world is set on holding grudges and not moving on from the pain. People who hurt others try to look the other way or justify themselves.

When you meet a person who is willing to forgive people who have killed their family members in the name of Jesus, it sends a powerful message to the world. It shows that people feel that Jesus has cleansed them of their sins when they do not deserve it. You can evangelize not by talking but by trying to reconcile all relationships around you. God is so faithful he will use our obedience to teach us how to spread the Gospel.

Conclusion of How to Spread The Gospel

If you want to know how to spread the Gospel, look no further than the life of Jesus. Look at how he lived righteously and how he made forgiveness the cornerstone of his life. If you want people to know Christ, make sure you first are fully rooted in him. One of the most powerful things you can do for another person is helping them to see and know Christ. Trust Jesus and his Word to show you how to spread the Gospel.
