How to Share The Gospel Online The Right Way

By lan Warner

When people think about how to share the Gospel, they often forget about online mediums. If you want to share the Gospel online it takes knowing where the people are. No one would argue that the internet is a massive part of our lives. Social media has changed how we interact and connect with other people forever. So how do you use these mediums to reach people with the truth of Christ?

One common phrase you hear a lot of Christians say these days is “just preach the Gospel” it is all you need. They do this without recognizing that the medium matters. Many old-school Christians think social media is not worth using to reach people with the truth. There once was a time when people hated Bibles being printed. There was a time when people hated, Televangelists. As Eccleistates states, “there is nothing new under the sun.” Humans make the same mistakes over and over again.

How to Share The Gospel Online – Respect The Internet

One of the big mistakes that Christians can make is not taking online mediums seriously. A lot of churches refused to live stream until Covid-19 hit. The second that Covid hit, you saw churches across the globe scrambling to figure out how to do things online. The internet is here to stay, and churches should be willing to embrace the internet.

There is nothing wrong with using the internet to reach people with the Gospel. Unfortunately, people spend time online, and that includes Christians. We are always looking at screens, so we need more Christians taking up screen time so that people are not watching trash.

Anything people pay attention to can be used to reach people with the Gospel. The quicker church leaders accept this, the better off we will be. A lot of churches have social media accounts but have not adapted to seeing them as the answer to how to share the Gospel online. Most churches use the internet to bring people into their buildings, but the efforts stop.

Don’t Go too Far With The Internet.

You can go too far with this internet thing. One clear thing today in America is that increases in wealth are not increasing the joy people have. The country is more prosperous than ever, yet suicide rates are only increasing. Covid has left many people in loneliness, and so many have no idea what to do about it.

The USA has become a place of poverty when it comes to community. When people think about the word poverty, they often talk about poverty when it comes to material things. People focus less on the community’s poverty because so many are in this. People no longer have good friends, and they share the depths of their hearts. They don’t know their neighbors, and people are less likely to have offline communities.

Church will always be done in persona, and it should be. Some churches are swinging toward trying to lead the way in the online experience, and they brag about having people all over the world tuning in. Though it’s great that people can now watch any church service they want online, it will never meet the community’s needs.

Hebrews 10:24-25 “and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

We can’t just skip the part of the Bible that tells us not to neglect meetings. So many people sit on the couch Sunday after Sunday watching church online and never get to be with the Saints. They never get to share their heart with people who believe in Jesus. They never experience being in a room with people all taking communion together.

How to Share The Gospel Online in Three Simple Ways

Write Blogs

Write blogs just like this one. Take the time to consistently write and build an audience of people seeking something deeper for their lives. If God has blessed you with the gift to write, it’s one of the best things you can do to glorify him. People love to read, and so much written on the internet is trash; why not write stuff that helps people?

People turn to Google for so many of their spiritual questions and needs. So many people rely on Google to help them shape what they think about God or to understand the Bible more deeply. If you know scripture, write about it and fight for the truth. Make sure that your blogs are ranking on the first page of Google.

Writing will force you to know the Word of God better, and it will help you to clarify your thoughts. There are questions that people go to Google for that you may not even know the answer to. See that as a challenge to go and find out and explain it well to others.

Zoom Discipleship is a Great Way to Share The Gospel Online

In our new work from home, covid world, many have used Zoom. Zoom has opened up the idea of disciplining others to the whole world. If you have a friend who lives in another city, hop on Zoom with them and talk about Jesus. It has opened an entirely new world to disciple others using the internet.

You can’t talk about how to share the Gospel online without mentioning Zoom because the possibilities are endless. You can have a group of people on there who all are atheists, and you can practice defending the faith. You can have some of your friends having the same doubts, and you can give them a reason for your hope in Jesus.

You can have meet-ups to check in with people. You don’t even have to talk about Jesus. First, you can build the relationship and then talk about Jesus later. When you are following Christ closely and someone wants to be in your life, it should be evident to them that Jesus is critical to you.

Shoot Videos or Podcasts

You can use sites like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and even Twitter to share content with the world. You can also create a podcast using platforms like Anchor, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts to get the truth out there. The key to success with any of these free platforms is staying consistent. So many people get ideas for things, start something, and then quit a few weeks later when they realize that they are not famous yet.

These platforms require at least a year of consistency before you notice anything good happening. It’s not going to happen after a month of posting. This is because there is so much crap out there that it’s hard to stand out quickly. If you are up for the challenge, though, this could be one of the best ways to share the Gospel online.

People love to watch videos and listen to audio. More and more people are spending their time online with these platforms, so it would be wise for more Christians to be where the people already are. Many people on these sites THINK they know Jesus, but in reality, they have no idea who he is.

Lead People to the Local Church

The goal of using the internet is not to have a bunch of internet-only Christians. To live this life like Jesus, you need to be with people. You can’t serve and be hospitable strictly on the internet. Jesus walked with people and spent time looking at them face to face. Jesus did not have the internet, but we should not assume that we know better than him.

Use the internet to pull people into the truth of who Jesus Christ is but do not stop there. If someone is far from you, help them find a solid local church that they can get plugged into. The internet can be the start, and it may be what feeds people daily, but the end goal is to do life with them.
