Boast In Christ

The Joy of the Lord is My Strength

The Joy of the Lord is My Strength

Two important verses come to mind when you think about “The joy of the Lord is my strength.”

Nehemiah 8:10

10 And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad; for the joy of the Lord is your strength!”

Psalm 28:7

The Lord is my strength and shield.
I trust him with all my heart.
He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.
I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

Breaking Down The Joy of the Lord is My Strength

When you hear that the joy of the Lord is my strength, what do you think of?

When you are doing things that please the Lord, you gain strength from that. Think about when you were a kid and how much hope and confidence you gained from pleasing your parent or a mentor. It makes you feel so good when they are proud of you because you know you’re representing them in a good way.

The same is true of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we sin, we feel disgusting and guilty inside until we repent. The reason for this is because we know we are not pleasing the Lord.

But when we are pleasing the Lord, we gain strength because we know that our master is pleased with us. What are some of the things that are pleasing to the Lord? Look no further than Galatians 5: 22-23:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.

Every time you decide to be kind when you could have been mean, you are doing what is pleasing to the Lord, and you are rewarded with his strength as a result.

When you experience this type of joy, you can’t help but live for the good Lord. You want to put all of your trust and hope in him. Things that used to seem like they were so important are no longer important at all.

Reading this means that you should first repent of your sins. Make sure you’re cleansed and get to experience the full benefit of following Jesus. There is no other place that you can get eternal life and forgiveness for your sins. Jesus died to watch away and pay for our wickedness, and there is nothing you can do to earn that.

Knowing this means that anytime Jesus is joyed, you should be too. Seeing someone come to Christ should make you joyful beyond belief! Keep telling yourself each day that “The Joy of the Lord is my Strength.”
