Culturally the world is constantly trying to tell people that you are great! Many people even believe that they themselves are God without giving any credit to Jesus or the Holy Spirit.
There is a scene in the Gospels where the disciples argue with themselves about who is the greatest amongst them. In John 13, Jesus then washes the disciple’s feet to make the point that the greatest is the one who serves. He is greater than I in how to live out your walk with Jesus.
If you see yourself as greater than God, then you take the place of God. You make your own rules and laws, and you decide what is good and bad. Though that might sound good to some of you, the truth is that if you are God and are not perfect, what is the point? If you are God and you know for a fact that people came before you, then what did those people live by?
Why is He Greater Than I?
God is the creator of the universe, and he is loving, faithful, righteous, holy, and sovereign. We are not these things even though we like to think we are. Many people will say that they love all of the time, but God is the originator of love by what he did with his son Jesus Christ (1 John 4).
God loves us so much that he wanted us to reconcile with him even though we were sinners. So God sacrificed his son and sent the word to the earth as flesh, and he lived with no sin, yet sin killed him on the cross. Three days later, God raised Jesus from the dead, proving that he wad God because he is the only person to beat death, and those who believe in him get to beat death as well.
We need to get back to worshipping the creator, not the creature. Think about this for a second. We will worship a musician, athlete, or movie star but not the God that made them. We will worship books and places but not the wonderful God that made those things.
He is Greater Than I and Know That He is a Jealous God

“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. Therefore, you cannot serve God and money!”
Why is The Call to Boast in Christ
One of the best things you can do is Boast in Christ. We are allowed to do this because it brings honor to God. If he is greater than I, you have to recognize that God is faithful, loving, just, righteous, and the creator of the universe.
We Boast in Chris because Jesus died for us. He humbled himself and left the right hand of God and sacrificed his perfect life here on earth so that we could have salvation and be reconciled to God (Philippians 2).
If Jesus did not do what he did, we would have to meet the entire law perfectly to be saved. The Old Testament proves over and over again that we are incapable of doing that. Jesus did not abolish the law, but he fulfilled the entire thing (Matthew 5).
Since Jesus fulfilled the Law, all who believe in him get to fulfill the law as a gift. Why? Because Christians become covered in the blood of Jesus. We get presented to God like Jesus; he does not see our sinful ways.
