75/2 of the Book of Psalms

75/2 From The Book of Psalms (NIV)

Psalm 75:2

 2 You say, “I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity.

For context, here is the full chapter around Psalms 75/2.

For the director of music. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” A psalm of Asaph. A song.

We praise you, God,
    we praise you, for your Name is near;
    people tell of your wonderful deeds.

You say, “I choose the appointed time;
    it is I who judge with equity.
When the earth and all its people quake,
    it is I who hold its pillars firm.
To the arrogant I say, ‘Boast no more,’
    and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horns.
Do not lift your horns against heaven;
    do not speak so defiantly.’”

No one from the east or the west
    or from the desert can exalt themselves.
It is God who judges:
    He brings one down, he exalts another.
In the hand of the Lord is a cup
    full of foaming wine mixed with spices;
he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth
    drink it down to its very dregs.

As for me, I will declare this forever;
I will sing praise to the God of Jacob,
10 who says, “I will cut off the horns of all the wicked,
but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.”

ESV for Psalms 75/2 of Psalms

    I will judge with equity.

ASV for Psalms 75/2

When I shall find the set time, I will judge uprightly.

Psalms 75/2 Breakdown

The verse is simply a reminder that judgment belongs to the Lord. It’s effortless to want vengeance and be judgemental of others, but it’s not our place. We can’t be the judges when we ourselves are judged. Only God himself has the power to judge.

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. – Romans 2:1

A person may think their own ways are right,
but the Lord weighs the heart.Proverbs 21:2

We are constantly reminded throughout scripture that judgment does not belong to us. It’s better for us to look into our own hearts and make sure that we are right with the Lord before we even think to judge another person. Psalms 75/2 makes it clear that God will choose when he decides to judge and that when he does it will be done in fairness.
